Office No. 1 is in the provincial government centre on Sun Ratchakan Road, Nai Mueang. THE OFFICE LISTING'S DIRECTIONS: on Mittraphap Road, starting in front of Ratchaphruek Hospital on your right, turn left into the road behind the government centre (about 120 m), then right onto Kasikon Thung Sang Road (about 1 km), then right onto Sun Ratchakan Road; the office is on your left after about 500 m. BY GRAB/TAXI: search 'สำนักงานขนส่งจังหวัดขอนแก่น แห่งที่ 1'. Include 'แห่งที่ 1' so you aren't taken to Office No. 2, about 14 km north on Highway 2. Tell a driver 'Kor Sor Lor Khon Kaen, haeng thi nueng' (ขนส่งขอนแก่น แห่งที่ 1).

Khon Kaen splits its DLT work across two sites. Office No. 1, this one in town, handles driving licences, motorcycle registration and motorcycle inspection. Office No. 2, on Mittraphap Road at km 14, handles car and commercial-vehicle registration and inspection.
If you are here for a licence, don't drive out to Office No. 2. It is the bigger, newer site, but the licence counters are at Office No. 1 in town.
Office No. 2 opened in 1999 because the original town site, in use since 1965, had no room to expand. For car registration or inspection, that is where you go: 152 Moo 3, Mittraphap Road, Samran.
The province also has district branches at Nam Phong (043-441-157), Ban Phai (043-473-534), Chum Phae (043-331-576) and Phon (043-415-003). Phone a branch before relying on it for a foreign-licence conversion.
Book through DLT Smart Queue before you go if you can.
Get your medical certificate at a clinic or hospital before you arrive, and bring two copies of every document plus your passport, visa page and entry stamp.
Dress modestly: no sleeveless tops, very short shorts or flip-flops.

A licence application needs proof of your Thai address, usually a residence certificate from Khon Kaen Immigration. That office has moved: older directories place it at Khon Kaen Bus Terminal 3, newer guides elsewhere on Mittraphap Road. Check where it is now before you go. Fees run 200-500 THB depending on the office.
