How to Get There
The office is on Kanchanawithi Road (Highway 401) in Bang Kung subdistrict, on the east side of Surat Thani town. THE OFFICE LISTING'S DIRECTIONS: along Kanchanawithi Road, starting in front of Wat Pho Nimit (Wat Bang Kung) and keeping left, continue about 1 km to the Sam Yaek Pa Mai junction and turn left into the office. FROM THE ISLANDS: take the ferry to the mainland, then drive or take a taxi into Surat Thani town. BY GRAB/TAXI: search 'สำนักงานขนส่งจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี', or tell the driver 'Kor Sor Lor Surat' (ขนส่ง สุราษฎร์ธานี).

Tips for This Office
This is the provincial office. Koh Samui has its own branch (see our Koh Samui DLT page), so this is the office for Surat Thani town and the mainland, and the fallback for islanders.
The province also has branches at Wiang Sa (077-361-969), Chaiya (077-270-863) and Ban Na San (077-249-433). If you live in the north or south of the province, one of them may be closer than town.
Finding it: on Kanchanawithi Road, from Wat Pho Nimit (Wat Bang Kung) go about 1 km to the Sam Yaek Pa Mai junction and turn left into the office.
Coming over from Samui, Phangan or Tao means a ferry plus the drive into town. Book a slot first and have every document copied before you leave the island; one missing photocopy can cost you a second crossing.
Book through DLT Smart Queue before you go if you can.
Get your medical certificate at a clinic or hospital beforehand, and bring two copies of every document plus your passport, visa page and entry stamp.
Dress modestly: no sleeveless tops, very short shorts or flip-flops.
Residence Certificate for This Office
A licence application needs proof of your Thai address, usually a residence certificate from Immigration. Surat Thani Immigration is not in town: it is at 41/12 Moo 2, Thung Rang, Kanchanadit district (077-380-881). Samui residents use Samui Immigration at 333 Moo 1, Soi 1, Maenam (077-423-440). Both addresses come from the Thai embassy's office list updated April 2024, so phone before you travel. Fees run 200-500 THB depending on the office.
